Tactile Sculpture

garnied

This is Haar Head.  It is a tactile pot designed to not only to be seen but be explored with your hands.  It was inspired by views of Dundee from Newport, revealed through the mist across the River Tay  Haar=Mist.

The piece was fired in a kiln four times as each layer of glaze, slip and lustre had to be fired to a different temperature.

The artist is Stephen Bird b1964.

The Haar Head was commissioned and created in 2007 and can be seen at

The McManus Art Gallery and Museum, Dundee.
