Sea Organ

garnied

Zadar in Croatia has a Sea Organ.

The sea front  had a concrete wall and  Nikola  Basic was commissioned to create an urban space which would enhance the area.  Opened in 2005, white marble steps leading to the sea have plastic pipes and a resonating chamber beneath.  These are activated by waves to form sounds.  Organ sounds.

The installation won a prize for the Fourth edition of the European Prize for Urban Public Space. Here’s a link to Public Space:

This gives an excellent description of the steps and the historic background.
